Over the course of this one week camp twelve (12) students will work with The Lesson Center staff and special guest coaches, Marla Schaffel (Broadway’s Jane Eyre) and Tristan Schuler (last seen off-Broadway in Spamilton and Cruel Intentions).
Students will work with the coaches on producing a solo showcase number and group number , concentrating on characterization and vocal performance/quality.
Each student will also receive a headshot session with professional NYC photographer. (Each student received one digital image, additional may be purchased if requested. Hair and make-up will also be available for an added fee.)
Marla Schaffel: The role with which Marla Schaffel is most closely identified is that of the title character in the John Caird and Paul Gordon musical adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre. First taking on the role in the Manhattan Theatre Company’s 1995 workshop of the musical, Schaffel played Jane in the world première of the musical in Witchita and in 1996 reprised the role in Toronto.
In 1999, Jane Eyre was presented in its Broadway try-out at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego before finally opening on Broadway at the end of 2000. For her portrayal of Jane Eyre, Marla Schaffel earned a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical and a Tony® nomination in 2001.
Tristan Schuler: A NYC based actor/director/writer and alumni of Bethlehem’s own Charter Arts High School, Tristan most recently starred in the Off-Broadway productions of Cruel Intentions: the 90’s Musical & Spamilton: An American Parody. He is a member of non-profit movement based theatre company Improbable Stage (@improbablestage) and the comedy Youtube channel Curmudgeons Sketch (@curmudgeons.sketch). Tristan has performed at the Drama Desk Awards, Broadway in Bryant Park, and many other esteemed performance venues in New York City.
Rachel Roy: Rachel attended Syracuse University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and received a Master’s from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. She played the role of Marcellina in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and the lead roles in Anything Goes, Me and My Girl, Annie Warbucks and Oliver and performed with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Southwestern Jazz Combo. For the past few years Rachel has judged many singing competitions in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey, and has been a staff member of The Lesson Center since 2012 .
